In the second thread we will discuss the role of nursing theory in research. Theory and research are intricately intertwined. Research builds knowledge, and tests the appropriateness of existing theory. Theory provides a framework for the systematic inquiry in the research process. The product of research may provide additional knowledge to build on theory.
