A fresh feed stream containing 4.0 mol% inert gas and a stoichiometric ratio of hydrogen and nitrogen is combined with a recycle stream and is fed to a system to produce ammonia according to the reaction:

The single pass conversion in the reactor is 20 % (moles N2 reacted per mole of N2 fed to the reactor). The gas leaving the reactor goes to a condenser where all the ammonia is recovered.
