Procedures for Collecting Physical and Biological Evidence
Evidence packaging lab: Packaging a Soda Can
1. Locate an empty soda can that is dry and clean of any liquid.
2. Grasp the soda can with your fingers/hand so as to transfer latent finger prints to the can.
3. Cover hands with clean protective gloves. (Protective gloves are contained in the student kit.)
4. Use a swab containing one or two drops of distilled water (tap water will suffice for this exercise) to swab the mouth opening of the can for DNA material.
5. Place the DNA swab in bindle, properly package the bindle in a small paper bag, seal the bag, and label for identification.
6. Package the soda can in a medium paper bag, seal and label for identification. The soda can will be used later for the latent fingerprint processing lab.
