Communicating the Impact of Current and Emerging Policies -
As a public health professional, one of your primary responsibilities may be to research, analyze, and communicate important policies. For example, as a state health department employee, you may design an educational campaign to warn people of the tax penalties they will accrue if they do not comply with the individual mandate provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Often, your research and policy analysis will target key stakeholders in leadership positions.
In this assignment, you imagine that you are presenting to a state or local board of health. You begin by researching current policies related to Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP. Then, you analyze the potential impact of one policy you researched on a program that is managed by that board of health. Finally, you create a PowerPoint presentation that summarizes your analysis.
The assignment (8-10 PowerPoint slides)
-Research websites on Medicaid, Medicare, and CHIP to identify current, emerging policies.
-Analyze a policy that could affect the implementation of Medicaid, Medicare, and/or CHIP programs at a state or local board of health.
-Submit a PowerPoint presentation that summarizes your analysis, including a script or speaker notes for each slide that support your bullet points. Be sure to provide an overview for each of the following policy topics:
- Structure
- Financing
- Funding
- Benefits
- Cost-sharing
