Milk is an emulsion of oil/fat and water. Although both components are transparent the  mixture is opaque, as photons (particles of light that travel in straight lines at 2.998x108 m/s) that enter the mixture are scattered in random directions each time they meet an oil  particle. A photon in a glass of milk essentially under goes a random walk. The average  step size, known as the mean free path, of this random walk l = 5x10-7 m.
(a) If a photon enters a glass of milk that is 5 cm in diameter approximately how many  steps would be required for a photon to travel through the milk to the point on the glass  directly opposite its entry point?
(b) How much time would this take?
