Strong competition that has a negative impact on customer demand is certainly an issue that should be concerning to the company's long-term growth strategy. Good strong companies are willing to adjust their policies and change accordingly if they find that the old policies are hurting their ability to effectively compete in the marketplace. What has happened in many companies is they refuse to change direction even in the face of evidence, typically losing customers, that what they are currently doing is simply no longer competitive. These companies end up losing market share and shedding employees until they recognize the need to re evaluate their policies which by then is usually too late.
