Reading Shakespears Othello . The definition of tragic hero is a person who has a tragic flaw, someone who has the knowledge to avoid tragic consequences but does not act on the knowledge.

Some audiences have thought the character of Othello is tragic in this way, others have not. These others think Othello's fate is sad, but not tragic, because these audiences think Othello does not have the necessary knowledge to avoid his fate.
