Intro to Public Safety Administration really gave me a perspective on what it is about. Before taking this class, I did not know how in depth Public Safety was. I plan on using the knowledge gained from this course and from future public safety admin courses to obtain my degree in Public Safety Administration. When I retire from the military, I plan on applying for a job with Homeland Security or FEMA. I plan on utilizing the information I learned during week 6, about generational differences. Before week 6, I always found myself asking what was the disconnect between the personnel entering the Navy now from when I came in. After reading the articles, I kind of have a hold on it now. I utilized the articles to understand why these kids are so different now. I have since applied what I learned about employee ethics as well, and passed the information on to my subordinates. I also, plan on using the different leadership styles to convey messages to personnel that work for me. Different leadership styles work for different people. While some people respond well to an authoritarian style of leadership, some may not. Some people may need a participative style to get going. But as discussed before, different situations call for different styles. I believe that this class had something for everyone even if they don't work in a Public Safety capacity. I enjoyed the class!!!
