You are investigating the flight characteristics of different kinds of birds. You collect a sample of 33 European swallows (Hirundo rustica) and measure their air-speed velocity in a borrowed wind tunnel. You find the mean air-speed velocity to be 11 meters/second with a standard deviation of 3 meters/second. You then collect a sample of 37 African swallows (Hirundo spilodera) and repeat your experiment in the wind tunnel. This time, you measure a mean air-speed velocity of 12 meters per second with a standard deviation of 2 meters per second.
(a) At a 2% significance level, do you have sufficient evidence to support a claim that the African swallow flies faster, on average, than the European swallow? Explain your answer (don't just say yes or no).
(b) What is the p-value associated with your experimental outcome? Explain how you arrived at your answer, don't just write down a number.
(c) Find a 90% confidence interval for the mean difference between the airspeed velocity of an African swallow and that of the European swallow.
The statistical research was done primarily through the internet from governmental regulated sources. Estimates were used in consideration of absence of actual information.
If there are 5 choices for a question and there is a 50% chance that the student knows the answer, what is the probability that the student knew the answer to a question he correctly answered?

Suppose the salary of assembly line workers has Normal distribution with mean of $20,000, and standard deviation of $3,000.
A high school counselor is interested in the percentage of students who will be going to college. She randomly picks 60 students and finds that 53 will be going to college. Use a 95% confidence level to find the population proportion.
The following data represent the cost of electricity for the period of July 2008 for a random sample of 50 one-bedroom apartments in a large city.
The lifetime (hours) of an electronic device is a random variable with the exponential probability density function:
If the researcher computes the t-statistic to be 4.2 and t-value found in t table for df=60 and level of significance of 0.5, is 2.0 researcher would accept or reject null hypothesis.
Never forget that even small effects can be statistically significant if the samples are large. Of 148 small businesses, 106 were headed by men and 42 were headed by women.
