As Parkinson Disease (PD) progresses, the time necessary for individuals to accomplish routine activities of daily living, such as eating, drinking, dressing, and ambulating, can be quite long. Serious life threatening complications including pneumonia, aspiration, and safety risks are not uncommon as the clinical manifestations of the disease become more apparent. How can the RN assist the patient with PD reduce the likelihood of these potential complications? In addition, discuss the concerns that develop after long term use of medications and how the professional nurse may assist the patient and family.
