Overview
You will work in teams of three and also independently to develop a dashboard solution and report based on the case study provided. When creating the dashboard solution and report, you are constrained by the data contained in the dataset provided. A template for you to use to create your report has also been provided.
Case study: Data driven transformation of Incognito City's police force
Your team of three members is required to identify a data-driven approach to provide insights in the form of visual dashboards to assist the following stakeholders:
• Major Jones - to improve societal issues surrounding crimes.
• Chief Constable Odinson - to manage the police force within Incognito City: Inner Incognito, Suburban Incognito, and Rural Incognito.
• Sergeant Rogers and other police officers - to be more informed of the crimes in their local areas.
Steps to follow
1. Download IFN558_2020S1_Assessment_Template.docx to collate and submit your work.
2. Write the problem formulation and design motivation in the template from your team of consultants' point of view. The problem must capture the data driven transformation of Incognito City's police force as described in the case study.
3. Download IFN558_2020S1_Dataset.xlsx to inform your assignment (do not use any other data source).
4. Complete the information requirements in the template. Ensure that the information requirements you create identifies:
• Key stakeholders
• Type of user they correspond to
• Information they require
• Data analysis and visualisation techniques necessary to be able to fulfil their needs.
5. Navigate the design cycle to develop a dashboard solution with Tableau (using IFN558_2020S1_Dataset.xlsx to inform this assignment). Each team member will have responsibility for one stakeholder's perspective. Refer to the stakeholders provided in the case study.
6. Each team member must create a separate dashboard in Tableau.
7. As a team member you will need to document each step in the template to outline how each step of the design process was followed and to provide evidence that key considerations were made.
8. Ensure you document the design and development of your individual dashboard presenting the low, medium, and high fidelity prototype of your dashboard solution. Provide screenshots and explain iterations.
9. Ensure you demonstrate and evaluate your individual dashboard with one interview partner (must be external to your group). Present the full transcription in the template and provide a short summary of the interview with key insights.
10. As a group, revisit the work you did to create the dashboard in Tableau.
11. Reflect on the decisions you made and think about why you made them.
12. Consider ethical, cultural, and privacy implications that result from the creation, implementation, and use of the dashboard solution.
13. Once you have reflected as a group and taken some notes about your discussion, you can write the section of ethical, cultural, and privacy implications in the template for your report.
14. Write conclusions to allow stakeholder groups to make highly informed decisions. What is the main message of your report?
15. Prepare your presentation in a PowerPoint file, which will be held in the workshops.
