The Newspaper Article Summary shall be in the following format:

1. The article the student selects shall be available on-line from the New York Times or Wall Street Journal and at a minimum shall be 30 paragraphs in length.

2. Include a copy of the article with the upload to the portal.

3. In addition, the summary shall state the newspaper's name, the article's headline, the date of publication, and a link to the article.

4. The summary shall identify the company that violated or is alleged to have violated a specific law, regulation or legal theory.

5. The summary shall identify the nature of the company's business as described in the article. To the extent the article does not identify the nature of the company's business, it may be necessary for the student to locate an outside source for the information. If so, cite to the source.

6. The summary shall identify by name or describe the law, regulation or legal theory the company violated or is alleged to have violated.

7. The summary shall identify the consequences imposed on the company for violation of the law, regulation or legal theory or the consequences that could be imposed on the company in the event it is found responsible for violating the law, regulation or legal theory.

8. The summary shall identify the public policy objective the law, regulation or legal theory is designed to achieve. It may be necessary to find an outside source for the information. If so, cite to the source.

9. In a minimum of five paragraphs the student shall write a summary in his or her own words of the entire article.

10. In no more than three paragraphs (the student may write more than three) the student shall state his or her opinion concerning whether the law, regulation or legal theory should even apply to business versus whether the nature of the free market provides sufficient means to encourage the business to conduct itself legally or ethically.

11. Notwithstanding the student's response to criteria #10 above, the student shall assume society should regulate the business by the law, regulation or legal theory, and then the student shall express the changes her or she would make to strengthen or weaken the law.
