Unit overview
This unit is designed to help you develop transferable skills within the Health and Social Care sector. It will also help you to develop the skills needed to progress to higher level qualifications. The Diploma gives you many opportunities to develop your English and maths as well as your practical and problem solving skills.
Task description:
1. Design and produce a table to list the different types of loss and grief that people may encounter in their lives.
(1.1) In one column in your table identify the different types of loss and grief. In one or more other columns, describe each type of loss and grief.
2. Write a factsheet identifying and explaining the different effects loss and grief can have on different stages of life. (No more than 500 words)
Include how this may impact on social, emotional, physical and behavioural well- being. (1.2)
3. Carry out independent research on the ways a person's culture, religion or personal beliefs may affect how they experience grief and loss. (1.3)
Your research should (a) identify and explain how strategies for supporting an individual might differ according to their age, culture, religion or personal beliefs (3.2), and (b) outline three different views about the stages an individual might go through when grieving or adjusting to loss. (2.1)
Design and deliver a PowerPoint presentation about one aspect of dealing with loss and grief. Print out your slides in handout format (3.2)
4. Design and produce a table to describe at least 3 different strategies a health and social care professional can use to help an individual. (3.1)
Your table should include at least one column describing each strategy, and at least one column describing how each strategy could help deal with the effects of loss or grief on the individual's lives.
5. List and explain three different ways of accessing support for those adjusting to loss or grief.
State how accessing support will help (a) the individuals adjusting to loss or grief (4.1) and (b) how accessing support will help health and social care professionals to provide the best possible support (3.3)
NB: Your completed work should be submitted in a plastic pocket with an attractive cover sheet and a signed/dated assignment brief.
