Top and bottom homologs both have 5 repeats (each repeat is 500bp long). A cut is made in the middle of the top homolog (bottom homolog intact), after strand invasion and recombination the top homolog contains 7 repeats.
Can someone walk me through this explanation? Does it have to do with the way the holiday junctions are cut? How does the top homolog acquire 2 more repeating units?
