TOPIC: How to Eliminate Employee Turnover
Previous Information:
My three research questions on Eliminating Employee Turnover is:
1. Are we hiring the right person for the job?
2. What is the relationship between compensation, benefits and promotion desire with turnover?
3. What is the possibilities of culture relations to turnover?
The purpose of this thesis is to explore how employee turnover affects the knowledge base within an organization. I will attempt to develop a structure which describes the relation between employee turnover and organizational knowledge and try to illustrate our structure. I am thinking I would use proposal and ethical claim and use logos and ethos as appeals to make my argument.
I have tried to make this argument to colleagues and family before. I have been somewhat successful with compensation finally but somehow that hasn't resolved the entire issue. I do believe I lost several good employees due to compensation but all issues do not resolve around compensation. At this point I am going to have to dig a little deeper into other possibilities on maybe I am hiring the wrong person for the job, maybe for the wrong reasons and other possibilities such as, culture wants and needs and maybe a change of career.
Instructions:
You will write a persuasive thesis statement related to an argument for change and evaluate the effectiveness of that argument using the Toulmin Model. You will write three well-developed paragraphs addressing the following:
Part I: First of all, you will revise the provisional thesis statement that you generated in the previous. Make sure the thesis is concise (1-2 sentences) and clearly expresses a persuasive argument related to your topic. Then, identify what type of claim your thesis expresses (policy, value, cause, etc.) and discuss why you think this thesis will be an effective one. For more on creating effective persuasive thesis statements, review the following Writing Center resources:
Part II: Next, describe how you will use the appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos to make your argument more compelling to your audience. You can review the Writing Center resource on the appeals here: "The Three Appeals of Argumentative Writing."
Part III: Finally, evaluate your argument based on the Toulmin Model. Describe the warrant (assumption), note possible challenges you might face in supporting this argument and what rebuttals will be needed, and determine whether the argument is susceptible to any logical fallacies and whether qualifiers would help to avoid those fallacies. You can review the Writing Center resource on creating a logical argument here: "How to Support an Argument and Avoid Logical Fallacies."
