All rod photoreceptors use glutamate as their neurotransmitter. All respond to light by decreasing the amount of neurotransmitter released. In some cases this causes hyperpolarization of bipolar cell membranes and in other cases it results in depolarization of bipolar cell membranes. Explain how this could happen.
