The focus of Unit 10 is on how social change affects culture through the processes of modernization. This unit's Discussion asks you to share a link to an article or film that provides evidence of the clash between the processes of modernization and traditions in any one society outside of the United States.
First conduct internet research to learn more about any society that you think is interesting where modernization could threaten traditional ways. For example, you might want to examine modernization and reindeer herding society in the Lule Sami border area between Norway and Sweden. Or, you may find the Wola hunter-gathers of Papua New Guinea Highlands interesting. Still another society that you might find interesting is the Taureg agricultural society of the West African Sahara.
