Hello. We are given an unknown substance in powder form. We are do dissolve half of this substance into water, then use half of that dissolved substance in water for emission spectroscopy, and use remaining half for qualitative chemical test(add 0.1M of copper nitrate to a unknown substance to see if it precipitates) Emission test for the cation and the qualitative test for the anion both require solutions that are between 0.1 M and 0.001 M to produce reliable results. Since the sample is an unknown solid, I will have to make a solution without knowing exactly what to mix. In your expertise, how much of the solid do you expect to dissolve in what volume of water and what is your reasons for choosing these amounts?
