Assignment (Part I): Read Oedipus (pg. 1039). This is going to take a few hours -- sorry! It's a really EXCELLENT piece of literature that everyone should read! Read it very thoroughly because you might (COUGH-hint-COUGH) see it someplace later in this course. Please DO NOT use Cliff Notes or anything similar. This is such an important piece of literature that you owe it to yourself to read it. You'll love it! Assignment (Part II): This post is worth 10 points. I would like for you to choose a character and do a character analysis. To add an extra layer, I would like for you to do a little bit of research and find one academic source to use in your analysis. Here's the specifics of what I want you to do: 1. Choose one character for your character analysis.
2. Answer this question: What makes your character your character? (i.e. What makes Oedipus SOO Oedipus?)
3. Use the slides to help you determine character attributes.
4. Consider and write about how (if at all) the setting plays a part.
5. How does is your character a representation of tragedy?
6. What does your academic resource say about your character? This should probably be about three to five paragraphs. This WILL take time, so please give yourself the time to do it. Don't rush it because the point of this is start using academic sources to analyze while improving your own analytical and critical thinking skills.
