Question: Intervening With Peer Violence

Watch the following video Bullying: What Every Adult Needs to Know. Be sure to take notes as you watch as you will apply what you learn to the following questions:

What did you find surprising in the video? Why?

How did what you learned about the Cycle of Violence relate to what we have been learning about prevention and intervention for peer victimization?

Compare the two intervention programs discussed in the video with what we have learned about best practices for intervening in peer victimization.

Describe an intervention program that you might develop based on what you have learned throughout this module. Your program might include elements of either or both of the intervention programs you saw in the video. Be sure to explain your rationale based on research for choosing the elements of your program.

Based on what you learned in your readings as well as from watching the video, does research support inclusion of legal consequences for intervening in bullying behavior?

Bullying is any intentional act that some members repeatedly subject to their colleagues in a way that leads to ill-feelings among them. Bullying comes in many forms such as name calling, threats, physical violence or even joking about someone’s appearance, social status or where they come from. Some of the evident acts of violence in the video includes the shootings at a school in Tempe Arizona, Bethe Alaska and Little ton Colorado. One of the most surprising thing about these incidents is that the administration, parents and the students who were aware about this events did nothing to put an end to it or to at least control it.

Those who were being bullied had to take an action so that they can break free from the actions of bullies. Some of the members interviewed in the video gives this story of how they were bullied, where and why they were being bullied. Some of the people killed by the victims of bully were not meant to die as they did not attack them. When people are being bullied, they feel inferior and these may make them take desperate actions like murder in trying to save themselves. These are the actions that brings much damage but if these actions of bullying are taken into check, people can be saved. Parents, teachers and other responsible bodies should impose various actions that will be used to prevent or at least control bullies
