The program provides examples of the types of foods you should eat regularly and those you should eat in moderation or avoid. A nutrition program can be strict or flexible depending on its main purpose.

Early intervention is the main key to success to prevent chronic long term problems like obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis. The three most important points for a public nutrition program are listed below.

1. Begin educating children while in school at an early age. Educate healthy eating with parents for their children. While educating keep in mind the ages and cultures.

2. Explain to the parents that healthy eating is needed for proper growth and development. Educate the parents of the consequences of eating unhealthy. Provide examples of long term conditions like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

3. Have available literature or brochures for the parents with example of meal plans. Provide picture brochures for the kids to see. Have samples available during your program.

Bringing this information into the nutrition program will help provide a better understanding for parents and their children.

According to the "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education and Evaluation Study" listed below are two of the nutritional education community resources they have listed:

1. Healthy Meals Resource System (https://healthymeals.nal.usda.gov/): an online tool that facilitates the sharing of State and locally developed nutrition education and materials.

WIC: The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children provides supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and health care referrals to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants, and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

In nursing cultural competency is all about respecting the right and dignity of patients and others. Nursing is one of the professions were it is impossible to avoid or overlook people's culture and belief. People of different ethnicities and cultures are faced with healthcare needs every day and is our duty as nurses to understand that culture influences how people view disease, illness and treatment in order to avoid stereotyping, discrimination, racism, and prejudice.

In nursing practice, cultural knowledge helps in effective communication. Many people of different cultures and languages seeks healthcare needs every day and is our responsibility to respect whatever the patient speaks as part of his/her culture, if unable to understand patient language.

During hospital stay, nurses have the right to find an interpreter that will help to promote communication in other to provide optimum care to patient.

Understanding of individual culture helps to avoid false assumptions, false beliefs or practice for example Middle Eastern husband of female patient does not want a male doctor to examine his wife or Asian patient often avoid eye contact.

Cultural competency makes nurses to be flexible in their practice, because patient care plan needs to be individualized based on patient's culture and belief.

"Cultural competence in nursing practice is more than just having practice is more than having the right information, though , its about establishing professional relationships with every patient, regardless of how wired or unusual their expectations may appear. Its about providing optimum care at all times, even when patients pose special, unexpected challenges."
