Introduction

Biometrics is the science of using one or more unique physical characteristics or behavioral traits to identify and verify individuals. The best-known biometric identification method is fingerprinting (National Institute of Justice, 2011). Biometrics has changed the face of technology. It means "life measurements" it is based on the standard that every individual has their own unique characteristics that can be computerized. It uses biological aspect of a person to provide proof of attendance, entry into secure areas and for any other pursue for which proof of identity if needed (National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center, 2000). Biometrics can be categorized in many different ways; high biometrics, lesser biometrics and esoteric biometrics. High biometrics is the use of high accuracy, which uses the retina, iris and fingerprints. Lesser biometrics requires only a reasonable amount of accuracy and includes geometry of the hands, facial and voice recognition or signature recognition. Signature can be copied and/ or altered so the using a signature to verify identity is not 100% accurate or reliable. The third category is esoteric biometric which is not fully developed, but it requires vein measurement and measures the chemical composition of the body (Muraskin, 2010). This new ideology may help reduce the chances of medical malpractice lawsuits and help identify offenders properly that are processing through the criminal justice system.
