Your journal task is to choose any two Health Information Systems (HIS) and assess them, and write a report. The assessment should focus on the various components of business systems covered in Module 1. 

Journal 2 to be submitted as single document (700 words) 

Your journal task is to identify various considerations involved in planning for a secured Health Information System. 

For this purpose, assume that you are an IS Manager of a hospital of your choice. The hospital consists of 10 beds, and specialises in cancer related issues. The CEO is keen to develop a HIS for the customers so that billing and scheduling can be managed. You are required to use your prior knowledge to arrive at a planning document. 

You can define the hospital, the type of services to be offered as an initial scope and then plan for the HIS. 

Journal 3 to be submitted as single document (750 words) 

This task follows on from the previous tasks. Your journal task is to identify and elaborate five specific cost aspects for developing the HIS, integrating the HIS securely with other computing systems in the hospital. The hospital staffs use various systems such as the HR system, finance system, access system and payroll systems. Further, these systems are also accessed using mobile computers such as the iPads. 
The CEO would like to develop a complete set of hardware, telecommunication and Human Resource Infrastructure for the purpose of developing the HIS planned in Journal 2. 

Journal 4 to be submitted as single document (600 words) 

This task follows on from the previous tasks. Your journal task is to identify how the HIS can be aligned with various Business Processes. This should also include your plan for integration of the HIS with various key areas in the organisation.

You have been hired as an Information Systems consultant to examine State Health Centre, a fictitious multi-centre State Government Hospital, with about 20-specialist cardiologists. The centres are East, West, North, South and Central. The State Health Centre offers cardiology related services to affected people. The services include initial screening, ongoing maintenance and periodical treatment. The costs are recovered through subsidies provided by the Government. 

The hospital is modern and comes with state-of-the-art technology infrastructure, including wireless systems. The registrar, who is responsible for all patient safety and service quality affairs, wants to revise the IT structure and is especially interested in integrating access to all services through mobile devices inside and beyond the hospital. 

Your task is to develop a Business Systems Plan (with full justification as to how these are applicable for the organisation) so as to accommodate mobile access to various services provided by the hospital. Your task is to develop a planning document that details how a mobile access system can be implemented. You can use your imagination but MUST address the following: 

1. Any potential customer of the State Health Centre must be able to securely access all information aspects pertaining to services offered using a variety of mobile devices. 

2. The planning should involve provision for security, privacy and other user and organizational concerns. 

3. Your planning should identity the various security configuration options available on the market.? 

4. The planning should include consideration of various operating systems needed for this implementation, and these should be properly segmented and structured. 

5. The planning should also indicate a provisional list of expense items. You don't have to provide a costing now, as this will be done in the second assignment. 

You will prepare a planning document, in the form of a report, on how the above aspects can be accommodated. The planning document is a report covering all aspects stated above in a succinct manner. You have been given a word limit of 1200 words (excluding references). You must state your assumptions clearly and validate the stated assumptions through proper literature search. You may use any format for the report. The Internet provides many examples of Executive Type reports, and you are encouraged to search for samples that suit your needs. 
Assignment 2 (30%)

This written assignment is to be electronically submitted through the EASE system in the CIS8004 Study Desk. Hardcopy or email submission will NOT be accepted. 


This is a follow up from Assignment 1. State Health Centre is comfortable with your planning and they have asked you to implement your suggest plan. As part of the implementation, you will develop the following: 

1. ICT systems required to implement your plan 

2. A comprehensive costing schedule along with appropriate justification. 

Your documentation will highlight how you plan to assure security aspects as customer details need to be secured. Otherwise, the State Health Centre will be subjected to legal prosecution. Therefore, you need to verify your design concept carefully, accommodate appropriate testing protocols, and a comprehensive schedule for quality assurance. 

State Health Centre, at this stage, is not interested in actual development. They want only an implementation plan schedule and how this implementation can be accomplished successfully. 

Your research should be presented in the form of a written report, with a maximum word limit of 1500 words. References are not included in this word limit. You must state your assumptions clearly; validate the stated assumptions through proper literature search. You may use any format for the report. The Internet provides many examples of Executive Type reports, and you are encouraged to search for samples that suit your needs. 

Marking criteria 
You are strongly advised to read the marking criteria carefully before starting on your assignment. In particular, note the marks allocated for each part and sub-part. Ensure that the length of your solution is commensurate with the allocated marks. 
General guidelines for Assignment 1 & 2 
• Your submission must be submitted to the CEO as a report in a single document, not an essay. Please note that reports do have subheadings and an appropriate letter of transmittal is required. 
• The word count does not include the following: executive summary, letter of transmittal, table of contents, figures, tables, references or appendices. 
• The body of the report should be about 1500 (for assignment 1) and 2000 (for assignment 2) words in length and you may lose marks if it varies by more than 10%. 
• You must demonstrate additional research from outside the text. Suggestions for other references include other general texts on information systems management, industry journals, periodicals, electronic databases etc. 
• Use the Harvard referencing format for in-text references and the reference list. Your references should include at least one web/electronic link but all the references should not be from the web (ie URLs). 
• Inappropriate referencing or excessive grammar/spelling errors will incur a penalty. You should refrain from cutting and pasting chunks of materials from the Internet as this will be treated as plagiarism. To avoid any allegation of academic misconduct from unintentional plagiarism from Internet sources it is compulsory that you use the TURNITIN software to check your work before submitting it. Remember TURNITIN may take more than 24 hours to produce the report. There are few other free applications available on the net to check plagiarism and you are allowed to use them as well. 
• You must state your assumptions clearly, validate the stated assumptions through proper literature search, provide a compelling case for any assumptions you may make for completing this assessment. You may use any format for the report, and the Internet provides many examples of Executive Type report, and you are encouraged to search for samples that suit your needs.
