Suppose you had two small boxes, each containing 1.00 g ofprotons.
If one were placed on the moon by an astronaut and the otherwere left on the earth, and if they were connected by a very light(and very long!) string, what would be the tension in the string?Express your answer in newtons and in pounds.
I came up individually with F (box onearth)= .0098N and F (moon)=.00162N, but not sure if these areright or what to do with them to find the tension.
Do you need to take into account the gravitational forces ofthe earth and moon on the protons? Why?
I was thinking yes since thegravitational force on the moon is 1/6th of the Earth's and wouldaffect the weight.
What gravitational force would each box of protons exert onthe other box?
