The first gene is responsible for determining blood group (A,B or O). For this gene both A and B are dominant (codominance) and O is recessive. These alleles are referred to using the following:
IA - A Allele
IB - B Allele
I0 - O Allele
The second gene determine the Rh type (+ or -). In this gene Rh + is dominant over Rh -. These alleles are referred to using the following:
R - Rh+
r - Rh-
1) A woman has the blood type 0-. What are the possible combinations of these 2 genes in her egg cells?
2) This woman's husband has the Following Genotype - IBI0Rr. What is the likelihood that their children will be O+ blood type?
3) Is it possible for these parents to have a child with AB+ blood type? Explain your answer
4) Mother-fetus incompatibility occurs when the immune system of the mother crosses the placenta and attacks the red blood cells of the fetus. This only occurs when the mother is Rh- and her fetus is Rh+. What is the likelihood that this woman will experience complications associated with Mother-Fetus incompatibility during her pregnancy?
What is meant by the expression "typical spinal nerve unit"? With the aid of a simple diagram, describe and explain the components of such a unit.
Assume you wish to conduct a chi-square test on a set of data obtained from a test cross, to determine whether two genes (A and B) are linked.
Insulin is a secreted protein made by islet cells in the pancreas. The gene INS encodes the precursor for insulin protein. Explain the flow of data from the INS gene.
Earlier in 2010, the Pacific island nation of Samoa decided to switch from driving on the right to driving on the left. Why may these cause difficulties? Why is it complicated for a cell to change codon usage, say, switching a "stop" codon to a trypt..
Assume you performed a gram stain on a sample from a pure culture of bacteria and observed a field of red and purple cocci. Adjacent cell were not always the similar colour. What do you conclude.

Examine the major stages of sea urchin development with reference to your series of detailed drawings and observational notes. How did the embryonic cells compare in size with the original gamete cells? State reasons such a difference may exist.
If the genes were expressed in the cell, predict that signal would win out for the following combinations. Give details your reasoning.
