Flexible Budgeting

You have just been hired as an assistant plant manager. The plant manager told you that, although production quantities vary widely from one month to another, the company has always prepared a static master budget for the year with constant and even budget amounts for each month. Each month manufacturing performance is compared against the static budget. Some months performance looks great and other months it looks very bad. The manager has asked for your recommendation. You recall studying flexible budgets in college. What would you tell your manager about flexible budgets and how they might improve performance measurement for the factory?
