Pyrethrum is an African plant that develops daisy-like flowers with white petals and yellow centers. The chemical pyrethrin is produced in large amounts in the flower buds. Pyrethrin is a very strong poison that shuts down the nervous system of insects. This chemical is used as spray to kill insects by contact. It is also widely used in collars and shampoos to control bugs on animals such as pet dogs and cats as well as cattle, sheep, swine, and horses.
