When companies in oligopolistic industries announce a proposed merger, it is often met with resistance from antitrust authorities (such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) in the U.S.). In the U.S., we have seen recent examples in the cell phone service provider industry, airline industry, and beer industry.   Please find and share an example of a recent merger that was investigated by antitrust authorities. Give an overview of the merger and discuss why the merger was either allowed to proceed or was blocked. What were the deciding factors? If the merger review is still pending, discuss what you think the major decision factors will be and whether you expect the merger to be approved or blocked.
