Amoxicillin is an important antibiotic. It can be obtained by an enzyme catalyzed reaction in aqueous solution. To ensure product stability and enzyme activity, you need to run the reaction in a buffer system at a pH of 7.30. a) Using the list provided, select the most appropriate acid to use together with its sodium salt for the buffer system. (Choose based on Ka values and assume no other effect on reaction) Hydrofluoric acid (Ka = 7.4 x 10^-4) Acetic acid (Ka = 1.8 x 10^-5) Hypochlorous acid (Ka = 3.5 x 10^-8) Hypobromous acid (Ka = 2.0 x 10^-9) Hydrocyanic acid (Ka = 4.9 x 10^-10) b) Using the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, calculate the relative amounts of the acid and its sodium salt that need to be mixed to achieve a pH of 7.30. c) If the reaction is carried out in 1.00L of solution and your buffer system is composed of 0.50 M acid and the appropriate amount of sodium salt, what will the pH be if 0.10 moles of H3O+ are produced during the reaction?
