A cube of 2" dimensions is placed in a square hole (also of 2" dimensions) that is 1.998" deep. The hole was cut out of a rigid material. (The top of the cube protrudes .002" above the surface). If a flat rigid plate is placed on top of the cube and a hydraulic ram presses the plate down flush with the top of the hole, determine the stress in the x, y and z directions. Also determine the force applied by the ram. Take E=30,000 ksi and ? =0 (nu).
