How important do you think motive is in any assault? Motives can generally be divided into three separate categories: 1) employment related motives; 2) motives personal to the employee and 3) motives neutral to the employee and to his employment. The neutral or positional risk doctrine provides protection to the employee who, through no fault of his own, sustains an injury even when the employment was not the cause of the attack.
