Rhetorical Analysis Paper

For your rhetorical analysis paper, you will be analyzing print advertising for rhetorical methodology. What this means is that you will be analyzing what features of the advertisement in terms of how they work to effectively convince their audience of an idea or purpose.

What I am looking for:

A clear cut thesis explaining how and why the advertisement works (or how it fails to work)

Your thesis should not be about whether or not you liked or didn't like this advertisement

Your thesis should not be about what the advertisement is for

TIP: Things to consider- Who is the audience? How can you tell? (Word choice, color, layout, celebrity, tone, mood, featured items in advertisement, lifestyle implications)

Do you have information (research) that supports your ideas about how the advertisement works?

Don't forget that you can use your Work in Progress textbook as a great reference as to what rhetoric means and the types of rhetoric that we use

Did you organize your paper to help your reader understand what you are saying?

For each point your make, you need to show support or evidence to back it up.

These points need to be organized in terms of topic so that the paper does not jump around all over.

Are you using examples, details, and facts based on the advertisement you chose and research that you conducted?

Do you own the information that you saying, stating opinions as facts?

Do you have a strong conclusion that enforces your thesis without restating everything that you just told me?

Did you format and cite your sources according to MLA guidelines?

The Facts:
