1 "Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose", the famous quote from Gertrude Stein's 1913 poem ‘Sacred Family', can probably be used to indicate in a simple manner that a project is a project and its structure can be made generic as to match any type of project. D.G. Carmichael states that "there is no need to distinguish between the types of projects. There is no advantage in treating non-technical projects differently to technical projects" (Carmichael, 2005:219). I personally believe that although from a managerial perspective there may be a conventionally accepted way of setting up a project structure, there is always a need to fine-tune the organisation to suit specific needs of the project based on its scope, resources, timeline, stakeholders and most importantly its environment.
Do you agree/disagree with the above? Why?
2 With regards to the different team roles required to successfully manage a project, I believe Belbin team roles definitions provide a very clear description of what an organisation encounters when setting up a team. I consider that, regardless of the type of organisation, understanding at an early stage the role that team members usually play or the role that most likely fits each of them is of utmost importance for the successful achievement of the team goals.
