1. In the poem Do Not go Gentle into that Good Night by Dylan Thomas, the narrator is speaking to his father. After analyzing this essay, I believe the theme is to go on living, even if you are dying. It is clear that his father is nearing death, but the poem is supposed to be motivational. Although this poem is over a very solemn topic, it has an uplifting tone. To me, it is very sweet that the narrator wants his father to overcome the grief that comes with understanding ones mortality.
I believe the strict structure of the poem adds to the overall theme and tone. Since it is so structured and well thought out, it really makes the reader (and hopefully the father) listen to the underlying message. The words "do not go gentle" really stand out to me. I think that they are meant to apply not only to the father, but to the narrator. I think it is meant to say that no matter what point a person is at in their life, they should never live gently. People should fight for their life even when they are decades away from death, and keep up the positive momentum until the very end.
