Anthocyanin is a reddish-purple pigment fond in the tissues of some plants. The production of this pigment is under the control of two genes. The dominant allele R, of the R gene codes for enzyme 1 that converts a white precursor substance to a white intermediate substance. The dominate allele A, of the A gene codes for enzyme 2 that converts the white intermediate into the purple pigment anthocyanin. The recessive alleles of both of these genes (r and a) cofe for verision of their respective enzymes that cannot bind to their substrates.
