Discussion: Introduction to Cognitive Psychology

Cognition refers to mental activity. In this course you will learn about many cognitive processes, including perception, attention, memory, decision-making, and language. Cognitive neuroscientists are interested in the brain regions that are involved in cognitive tasks. They can use various methods such as studies with patients with brain lesions, positron emission tomography, functional magnetic resonance imaging, event-related potentials, and transcranial magnetic stimulation.

For this Discussion, imagine you are a cognitive psychologist. Identify a cognitive process that you would be interested in learning about and a cognitive neuroscience technique that you would choose to investigate the brain regions involved in this cognitive task. Discuss how this technique could be used to study your chosen cognitive process. Make sure you support your discussion with information from the unit's Readings.
