Question 1
1. Discuss and justify the different leadership styles required in different situations faced by the organisation in achieving organisational objectives.
You need to look at the leadership styles practised in the organisation you have chosen. Frequently this will be the organisation you work in, so it is a question of observing and critically assessing your own managers at any level in the organisation. You can do this without fear of disclosure as the submission is confidential between you and the University.
If you prefer not to use your own organisation, you can research an organisation on the web and in the library. The most frequently seen are Apple, GEC and Virgin, but there are many others.
You might apply contingency based approaches to leadership and apply this to the organisation of your choice. You could see what relates from contingency approaches and other approaches that deal with styles/context and then say what you could do which then becomes your opportunity to showcase your understanding! For this use cited research.
Question 2
a. Critically assess the prevailing leadership styles in the organisation on teams' performance and organisational objectives.
b. You should specifically discuss how the organisation's leaders can establish a culture of professionalism, mutual trust, respect and support within their teams; and support and develop their teams' understanding of the organisation's direction.
Here, you can build on question one, cross referencing some of this research and examine how this helps/hinders team performance and the meeting of the objectives for your chosen organisation. This can then be linked to a discussion around the culture including mention of professionalism, trust and respect in relation to the organisational direction (as informed by the mission, objectives for example). Here you can explore the extent to which all of the aforementioned helps but also hinders the organisation meeting its objectives.
Question 3
a. Discuss the organisation's ethical and value-based approach to leadership.
b. Through this analysis, examine the impact of culture and values; legal, regulatory and ethical requirements; and
c. stakeholder needs and expectations on leadership in the organisation.
For question 3, then focus on ethics/value-based approach as informed by the mission/objectives. You need to set this in the context of the impact of culture and values; legal, regulatory and ethical requirements; and a discussion of stakeholder needs and expectations on leadership in the organisation.
Reflective comment [perhaps a short paragraph of what you have learnt on the module that will help your personal development]
Make sure that you provide a wide range of evidence to support your judgement; this could include a combination of objective/practical evidence as well as relevant theoretical models and frameworks covered in this module and wider. The key is to link theory to practice using cited research.
There are no prescribed word limits to the separate sections, just the overall word limit of 4000 words
