Consider the scenario shown below. A customer (AS1) is running IBGP internally and has EBGP connection to two different locations in the provider's site AS2.Using BGP, apply the following on the routers R1 and R2:

  • AS1 will accept AS2's local routes and its customer's routes such as AS3. AS1 will also accept one route from the internet to set its default provider to AS2.
  • For all outbound traffic toward AS2 and AS3, AS1 should use the SYD link as the primary link. In case of failure, the MEL link is maintained as a backup.
  • For all other outbound traffic to Internet, AS1 must use MEL link as the primary by following a default route. In case of failure, the SYD link is maintained as a backup.
  • For inbound traffic coming to 180.10.220.1, AS1 instructs AS2 to use the SYD link.
  • For all other inbound traffic, the MEL link is made primary.
