Fire Engineering Assignment - Fire Engineering Report
The intent of this assignment is for the Student to:
- Understand how to determine the relevant Performance Requirements in practice.
- Develop the ability to formulate a quantitative (i.e. calculation) assessment founded from a fire engineering perspective.
- Develop the ability to formulate a qualitative (i.e. reasoned) argument founded from a fire engineering perspective.
- Gain an understanding of the methodologies and techniques used in fire engineering.
- Gain skills in systematic thinking and persuasive writing.
Essay Question - The task is to develop the Performance Solution and assessment for the following NCC departures related to the:
- Performance Solution 1 (i.e. Protection to Openings in External Walls) must have a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1,500 words.
- Performance Solution 2 (i.e. Internal Discharge) must have a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1,500 words.
Students are expected to submit their completed assessments as a single report. Although students will be providing personal opinions, the use of the first-person voice should be avoided, and where necessary, research evidence should be used to substantiate points of contention.
Essays citations must be in-text citations and a list of included references, and may include graphs, figures, and tables. If these are used, they must be suitably cross-referenced in the text. Graphs and figures will generally not be counted in the word count, but table text will be counted.
Finally, students should ensure that their final composition is free from spelling and grammatical errors, enhances readability, is logically defensible, and wholly responds to the statement included above.
Answers may include graphs, figures, and tables. If these are used, they must be suitably cross-referenced in the text.
