Balsa wood has been used for many years as a model making material. However, light weight modern, alternatives are also available. One such material is depron foam. It is a form of polystyrene sheet. It is lightweight and does not absorb moisture making ideal for model aircraft. It is available in two colours - grey and white. It is also available in three thickness 2, 3 and 6mm. Depron is a polystyrene foam, popular as a material for the manufacture of fast food trays and packaging. It is much lighter than balsa wood and can be cut with a sharp blade, sawn with a fine.
toothed mod- elling saw or fretsaw with a very fine blade. It can be sanded and smoothed using the usual files and abrasive papers (eg. wet and dry paper). Heat can be used to shape it although great care should be taken. Glue guns can be used to join depron or zepron although solvent free glues can also be used effectively. Using Figure 1.9 in the text-book, develop a system of equations and solution for free deflection of a morphing wing in the d33 operating mode. (Hint: Refer to class formulations on piezoelectric characterizations in Chapter 3). Show the constraint differences between 2, 3 and 6mm of Depron foam.
Determine maximum total bending moment (static plus dynamic) of the beam under steady-state conditions.
Two infinite parallel plates are separated by a distance h. The space between them is filled with a Newtonian fluid: density (rho), viscosity (mu). The lower plate is fixed
Verify that heating the wire may be treated as a lumped-capacity process, find the steady-state temperature of the wire and find how long it takes for the temperature of the wire to reach 100°C.
Hazen-Williams Formula- Find the Diameter of a Pipe, The length of cast-iron pipe is to be 4200 ft., and the head causing flow is to be 12.6ft. After the pipe has been in service 5 years, it is expected to discharge water at a rate equal to 3.2 cf..
Mechnical Vibration Analysis, How do I deduce the value of the viscous damping factor? How do I deduce the value of the viscous damping coefficient c?
To Verify the law for parallelogram of forces, law for triangle of forces and law of polygon of forces. These laws are very useful to calculate unknown forces in very short time.
What gas pressure will the experimenter measure inside the bulb, A glass bulb contains air at room temperature and at a pressure of 1 atmosphere. It is placed in a chamber filled with helium gas at 1 atmosphere and at room temperature
Determine the mode shapes and frequencies of vibration of the system of cars by Sweeping the rigid body mode
Midrange and amplitude components, A shaft is subjected to a completely reversed bending stress such that Xmax=40kpsi and Xmin=-40kpsi
What is the temperature 7 cm from the base if the rod is made of a) pure zinc b) lead c) pure gold. Which will be the hottest at this point?
Evaluate the shearing and normal stresses at points H and J located at the ends of the horizontal and vertical diameters of transverse section located 2.5 in. to the left of bearing B.
