Hydrostatic and fluid flow systems and thermodynamic systems

Evaluate problems involving fluid dynamics

Task 1 - Consider a round nozzle directing the water jet on the flat plate as per below picture. The water jet exerts force of 39 N on the flat plate. Assuming steady flow and neglecting frictions, determine the following:

a) The velocity at nozzle exit

b) The moss flow of water

c) The velocity at nozzle entrance

d) The manometer reading (mercury filled)

If D1 is 11 cm and D2 is 3 cm.

Apply the First Law of Thermodynamics to reversible non-flow processes

Task 2 - A cylinder filled with gas 6*, shown on the right side, having stop at height, h of 1.10 m and a frictionless piston with area A of 0.2 m2, at initial state P1 = 301 kPa and T1 = 489oC, is cooled down to 20oC. Apply the First Law of Thermodynamics and analyse:

1. The process when the piston reaches the stops

2. The process when air reaches final temperature

3. Draw to scale and label T-V, P-V and P-T diagrams
