Chapter 1 Lab - APEX
Purpose
The purpose of this lab is to get used to APEX by exploring the tool and looking at the included sample databases
Overall Description
You will complete the steps below to get used to Oracle APEX and tie in the concepts we discussed in Chapter 1 to the tool
What to do - Overview
Complete the steps below in the "What to do - detail" section then write a one page report answering following questions
1) Name and describe three ways in which Oracle APEX is the same as ACCESS
2) Name and describe three ways in which it is different
3) What are some things you have come across that are new to you?
4) What is the same?
5) What tables are related to each other?
6) What are the keys for each table?
7) Are the tables normalized?
a. If yes, what normal form are they?
b. If no, what would need to be done to normalize them?
Deliverable
- A one-page report answering the questions above single spaces calibiri font 11 or equivalent.
What to do - Detail
1) Make an account on Oracle APEX (Detailed instructions on Blackboard)
2) From your homepage to go App Builder -> Database Applications
3) Click on Sample Database
4) Click on 1 - Sample Database Application
5) From here click Run (The button that looks like at the top right hand side of the screen)
6) Play around in the database.....remember: YOU CAN'T BREAK IT
7) Go back to the homepage by clicking on the top left corner
8) Click on SQL Workshop from top of the screen
9) Click on Object Browser
10) Make sure Tables is selected from the drop down
11) The data from the Sample Database Application are the tables that start with DEMO_
12) Look at each table and all of the attributes of that table
