The research questions
1. What are some forms of discrimination encountered by domestic workers in Canada?
2. What caused the percent of black women working as domestics to increase after World War II?
3. What role did immigration policy play in providing domestic workers for Canadian households?
4. What is the Live-in Caregiver program (LCP)? How it is different from previous government schemes to provide domestic worker? What is the most common form of domestic work in 1980s? What rules do LCP employers need to follow? What about the workers? What are some problems with the LCP?
5. Have domestic workers in Canada formed or joined any unions or other sort of worker's organizations? If so, what sorts of things does the union (or organization) do for and with the workers?
Until very recently, most women domestic workers in Canada were young and single women whose terms of service lasted until marriage. The definition of a domestic worker is completely different from unpaid homemakers and housewives. Today, some of the jobs for domestic worker include cooks in private residences, housekeepers and nannies. These workers can be female or male, but there is an issue about their salary. The issue is that women domestic worker are often paid less than males. The female domestic workers in Canada have often been paid very low wage, have experienced discrimination in their workplaces and lost chances to build their own career and lives.
Additional Information-
The problem is related to Sociology and the problem describe the paid domestic service in Canada. This is a report that emphasizes on the discriminations the domestic workforce has been facing because of the existence of gender and class inequalities. This report also focuses on live-in caregiver program and will critically evaluate it.
