There are two general mechanisms of miRNA/AGO complexes. If miRNAs are fully complementary with mRNAs, AGO can cleave these targets. If there are mismatches between the middle positions of miRNAs and their targets, then the miRNA/AGO complexes can bind mRNAs to execute translational inhibition.
