Why are women opting-out of the corporate work force in increasing numbers?

Part Three

Give an example of “the Halo Effect” that you’ve observed either in your personal life, work experience, or academic experience.

Part Four

You offered an employee who was struggling financially a promotion that did not include a raise, hoping this would motivate her to perform at a higher level. She accepted the promotion but immediately started looking for a new position---she resigned three weeks later. Explain, through the use of Maslow’s Hierarchy, why this promotion may have been a mistake.

You just finished your first year as a manager in a new job. During your performance review, your supervisor acknowledged some of your technical achievements on the job, but explained that your people skills needed work. Specifically, she mentioned that you appear to be unable to empower and engage your employees. What could she have meant with this remark?

Part Five

Your company has a good idea of the revenue it can generate for the year and many of its costs are fixed. As a result, there is very little flexibility with establishing departmental budgets. Are you better off using a top-down or bottom-up budget approach in this situation. Please explain your answer.

You company has rolled budgets forward every year for the past ten years and either kept allocations flat or provided slight increases. Someone on the management team suggested that it might be time to try zero-based budgeting. Why could this be a good idea?

Part Six

You hired a group of five people to work in a department and did not provide job descriptions to anyone because you wanted to see what they naturally did well and struggled with before you created clear roles. At the end of the first month, three people resigned after developing great conflicts with each other and the remaining two came to you asking for assistance and clarity. Did your decision to structure the job in this fashion contribute to this result or did you simply have employees who were not up to the challenge? Explain your answer.
