Repeat Problem 9.49, but assume a closed FWH instead of an open FWH. A single pump is used to pump the water leaving the condenser up to the boiler pressure of 3.0 MPa. Condensate from the FWH is drained through a trap to the condenser.
Problem 9.49
Consider an ideal steam regenerative cycle in which steam enters the turbine at 3.0 MPa, 400?C and exhausts to the condenser at 10 kPa. Steam is extracted from the turbine at 0.8 MPa for an open FWH. The feed water leaves the heater as saturated liquid. The appropriate pumps are used for the water leaving the condenser and the FWH. Calculate the thermal efficiency of the cycle and the specific network.
A loose, uncompacted sand fill 6 ft in depth has a relative density of 40%. Laboratory tests indicated that the minimum void ratios of the sand are 0.46 and 0.90, respectively. The specific gravity of solids of the sand is 2.65.
The inlet conditions are Ma1= 1.2, T01= 350 K, and P01 =240 kPa and the exit Mach number is Ma2= 2.0. Disregarding frictional effects, determine the rate of cooling of air.
