Control of HIV/AIDS. As of 2012, the number of people living worldwide with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/ AIDS) was estimated at 35 million, with 2.3 million new infections per year and 1.6 million deaths due to the disease (UNAIDS, 2013). Currently there is no known cure for the disease, and HIV cannot be completely eliminated in an infected individual. Drug combinations can be used to maintain the virus numbers at low levels, which helps prevent AIDS from developing.
A common treatment for HIV is the administration of two types of drugs: reverse transcriptase inhibitors (RTIs) and protease inhibitors (PIs). The amount in which each of these drugs is administered is varied according to the amount of HIV viruses in the body (Craig, 2004).
Draw a block diagram of a feedback system designed to control the amount of HIV viruses in an infected person.
The plant input variables are the amount of RTIs and PIs dispensed.
Show blocks representing the controller, the system under control, and the transducers. Label the corresponding variables at the input and output of every block.
Replacing Q1 by its small-signal model, find an expression for the small-signal input resistance Rin assuming finite gain but infinite input resistance for the amplifier μ. Note that here it is much easier to do the analysis directly than to use ..
The first cash flow of a 25-year series of quarterly cash flows is equal to $35,000. Each cash flow in the series increases by $800. Find the amount of each cash flow in an equal quarterly cash flow series that is equivalent to the increasing cash..
how you determine the expected amount of CO2 generated per hour due to inbound operations when you start using forklift alternative 1?- Define the queueing system by describing the customers.
Use capacitors of 0.1 nF and 1 nF. Wherever possible, choose resistors of 100 kΩ in your design. Diodes have a drop of 0.7 V. What is the minimum input step size that will ensure triggering? How long does the circuit take to recover to a state in ..
Superconducting magnets are used to generate massive magnetic fields that cause large magnetizations in the ferromagnetic inductor. Below are three candidate materials for the superconducting magnet. Based on what you know about superconductors, w..
1.) Draw the schematic for a 2-input XOR circuit, using only AND, OR, and NOT gates. (Remember the Boolean formula for XOR, and implement this using AND, OR, and NOT gates.)

Problem 1: A force, F applied to a laver-shaft assembly as shown in the figure. F = 534 N. determine the scalar component of the moment at point O about line OB and the reaction at O.
Formulate a linear programming model for the above distribution management problem. Define your decision variables and the notation you use for them, express the objective and objective function, and constraints using your decision variables.
Figure shows a stream of water flowing through a hole at depth h = 1.0 cm in a tank holding water to height H = 40 cm.
Calculate the current (I) that it will draw and the resistance (R) of the heating elements. If for some reason the resistance suddenly falls to 2 Ω during use, what would be the consequences?
