Consumer Driven Health Plans (CDHPs) were the wave of the future but have since fallen from favor. Supporters of consumer directed plans believed that if consumers had a greater financial stake in their health care, they would fix the system by making quality and costs conscious decisions. (Remember, for most services, consumers with health insurance pay only a small portion of the cost of care. They also pay same amount whether they go to hospital A or hospital B.) As a consumer of healthcare yourself, what role do you think consumers have in health system reform and what resources will they need?
