1. An effluent disposal contractor is considering entering the recycled field. At present he incinerates an organic waste containing recoverable solvents and dumps the aqueous based effluent containing acids and metals. After marketing and technical studies he has four possible processes. Process A is solvent recovery by distillation, B is hydrochloric acid recovery, C is copper oxide recovery, and D is copper and nickel metal recovery. Either process C or D could be built. Details of the alternatives are tabulated below with the relevant data.

The slurry effluent from the reactor (digester), consisting of solid inert material from the ore and an aqueous solution of aluminum sulfate is then fed to a three-stage, countercurrent washing unit to separate the aqueous aluminum sulfate from th..
Discuss how the phase equilibria of mixtures are represented using diagrams similar to the pressure-temperature and pressure-specific volume diagrams for one- component systems. Use the example of a mixture of ethane and heptane to illustrate your..
A liquid mixture consisting of 100 kmol of 60 mol% benzene, 25 mol% toluene, and 15 mol% o-xylene is flashed at 1 atm and 100°C. (a) Compute the amounts of liquid and vapor products and their composition.
Consider 1 mole of ideal gas at 1 bar and 300 K, which of the following statements is true? The absolute entropy of the system is negative. Helium (m=4 amu) will have a larger entropy than argon (m=40 amu).
Design a reactor system to produce 40 metric tons per year of riboflavin using the strain given in the patent.
Write reactions for which the enthalpy change will be a. Hf for solid aluminum oxide
Consider an ordinary, helium-filled party balloon with a volume of 2.2ft3 . The lifting force on the balloon due to the outside air is the net resultant of the pressure distribution exerted on the exterior surface of the balloon.
Under the mannich reaction, after the initial amine-formaldehyde reaction, could xylene act as a substrate to stabilize the reaction if the reaction does not stabilize during or prior to dehydration and clearing? In synthetic chemistry, amine-form..
Are the following processes exothermic or endothermic? after selecting the answer please explain why you selected it. a. When solid KBr is dissolved in water, the solution gets colder.
