The data below comes from a 2008 paper by Niemiec et al in the European Journal of Epidemiology. The data are coronary artery disease patients and blood donors in Poland. The researchers were examining the frequencies of the M235T polymorphism of the angiotensinogen gene.

i. Of 158 coronary artery disease patients, 123 have at least one copy of M235T.

ii. Of 97 blood donors, 61 have at least one copy of the M235T allele.

  1. Construct a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of CAD patients with M235T.
  2. What is the odds ratio of having the M235T allele for patients relative to blood donors?
  3. Test at the alpha = 0.01 level of significance the null hypothesis that the proportion of blood donors with M235T is equal to the proportion of patients with M235T.
